The Life of Masjid Kampung Keling

One of the oldest mosque in Malacca and Malaysia is located at Jalan Tukang Emas, also known as Harmony Street in Chinatown. Masjid Kampung Keling has been living from the past 265 years until now.

The mosque was built in year 1748 with wooden materials and the outer wall was completed in year 1868. Again in year 1872, the building was renewed with concrete materials.

According to history, the mosque was built by the determination from one of the villager who's named as Che Mat Bin Kecut. It was built because the land of Masjid Kampung Hulu, which is the older mosque located nearer Kampung Keling's mosque was being bid by the heir's daughter but the villagers manage to prevent it.
Around in the mosque, there were old graveyards of the family of Munsyi Abdullah. Munsyi's real name is Abdullah Bin Abdul Kadir and he was a famous Malayan writer of Indian origin.
